In its native environment of Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Honduras and Mexico, you can find the T. capitata growing in evergreen and deciduous forests. It grows amongst the trees but has also been found growing on cliff faces and canyons along riverbanks. The T. capitata is both epiphytic and saxicolous, meaning that it grows both in trees and amongst rocks. There are numerous variations and hybrids of the T. capitata including this variety Capitata Guzmaniodes. This form of Capitata has bright translucent foliage which will turn a reddish/orange color if kept in bright light. The entire center of plant turns orange-red just like a Guzmania when blooming and has purple tubular flowers. It grows up to 12-14" in diameter and it produces pups well. It is a hardy variety and requires regular weekly watering. Can be grown in partial sun to full sun.
